Starburst Law Suit – too chewy??? Attorney is a wad.

Posted by rscme on June 30, 2007

Victoria McArthur from Michigan has filed a lawsuit against Mars candy company because the product called Starburst Fruit CHEWS are too CHEWY?

First, the description of the consistency of the product is right in the name.
Second, Why did she wait until the third or fourth chew to make this revelation (as seen in court documents).
Third, and this one is my favorite, is that her lawyers name is Brain Muawad which I believe is pronounced “Brian, Mmm, you a wad”.

She is suing for $25,000.

I plan on suing Coca-Cola because their soda is too bubbly.  I mean, really, insert your ludicrous comparison here.

I’ve got three words for Victoria – “what the f&^#$”.  Or I could go with just “get a life”.

Open letter to all Americans regarding Ann Coulter

Posted by rscme on June 27, 2007

Ann Coulter is a hate-monger, liar, and a felon (see voting fraud).  She has nothing to say of any value or merit in a national dialog about current or historical events.

I hereby swear that anytime this woman appears on television, I will change the channel and I implore all of my compatriots to do the same.  If television networks are going to allow her to appear in order to boost ratings, then we, as Americans, will speak to the television networks in the only language they understand…money.  If ratings equal dollars, and no one is watching, then maybe they will change their tactics, and simply refuse to allow her on the airwaves.  If you have any questions, or don’t believe me about how hateful this woman is, just do your own research.

 Thank you.

Immigration Reform, I don’t know what to think

Posted by rscme on June 24, 2007

I am not registered as a democrat or a republican. I am registered as “unaffiliated”. While you can probably tell from this blog that for the most part I would consider myself liberal, or progressive, I don’t like the idea of signing on with one political party. It makes me feel like I am forced to back one specific agenda.

Immigration is a subject that I have been struggling with for a while. I do believe that we should secure our borders on all sides of our great country. While this country was founded on the principals of welcoming all, there are just too many people out there who are trying to hurt us, or take advantage of us.

I do believe that we should still welcome anyone who wants to immigrate to the United States, but I also believe there needs to be a legal process of an application, a waiting period, and acceptance process. I believe we need to be able to account for and track all of these people who are in this process. These legal immigrants, prior to citizenship, should be able to take advantage of some social programs but not all, no right away.  And to receive these advantages, they should need to prove that they are in the midst of the legal immigration process.

I have been unemployed now for two months and I wonder how many immigrants right now, legal or illegal, are actually receiving more “benefits” than I am as a U.S. Citizen born in this country. Do they have free health care, because I don’t. Do they get food stamps, because I don’t. Are they on welfare, or Medicaid, because I am not.

Which brings me to children of illegal immigrants born in this country. If you are an immigrant, illegal or legal, and have not yet become a citizen, then your children born in the country should not automatically be U.S. Citizens. The children should become citizens when the parents do. This should not be a problem since the legal immigrants are following the process. Illegal immigrants are out of luck. But that’s OK, because they are “illegal”.  Doesn’t that make sense?  They should not be allowed to illegally come into this country, have children, and have those children automatically be U.S. Citizens. That’s like saying if someone from France traveled here on vacation and happened to go into early labor, thereby giving birth to a child while here in the U.S, that child is an American. That just doesn’t make any sense.

I know I am lucky to have been born in the United States, and my parents were born in the United states. I believe that there is no better country on this earth; Canada is a close second. The government should not be invasive and there should be a separation from church and state. I believe in the right to choose and gay rights. But I also believe that our country, all of us, as citizens, have the right to know who is in this country, how they got here, and if you follow a few simple rules, you can become and American as well. I just don’t think it is all that complicated.

I am probably over-simplifying it. I don’t have all the answers; if I did I would probably be a U.S. Senator or something like that. But I go back to my original point. When I think about immigration, all I really want is to know that the my country, greatest nation in the world, is safe and secure, like it should be and that my taxes are not paying for people to receive benefits while living here illegally.

I don’t know if that makes me a democrat, republican, progressive, conservative, or what, and I’m not sure I care.  It’s just what I believe.

Crazy – Redux – I just had to post this link

I don’t normally like parody songs but this is not just silly fodder, it’s a cry for help and a message of frustration.

It is not Liberals that become Journalists; it is Journalists that become Liberals

Posted by rscme on June 21, 2007

First, “liberal” is a word thrown around very often and I’m not convinced that everyone who uses it really knows what it means.  I believe it really covers “progressive”, “moderate”, “open-minded”, and a whole host of other words but for the sake of this piece, I will use the word liberal.  As for the term “right wing”, it also refers to words like “republican”, “conservative”, “Christian”, (and it maddens me that the word “Christian” somehow only applies to the right wing) but for arguments sake, I’ll use the words “right wing”.

I hear so much from the right wing pundits and talk show hosts both on radio and television claiming that the mainstream media is too liberal.  I would like to take a stab at explaining what I think is going on.

A true Journalist, and by that I mean people who went to school to learn Journalism, is taught to dig deep and find all sides of the story.  Read the rest of this entry »

Gayle King Rocks

Posted by rscme on June 21, 2007

I’ve known Gayle King for many years (not personally, but I’ve known of her).  I was born and raised in Connecticut, specifically around the Hartford area.  Gayle was a newscaster on our local CBS station, WFSB in Hartford.  I never really thought all that much of her one way or the other.  At one point I lived in the same town as her; Glastonbury, Connecticut.  I saw her in my local supermarket one day and she actually seemed kind of rude or aloof.  But maybe she was just having a bad day.

I saw her on The View this morning and I was impressed.  She is intelligent, well spoken, and while somewhat opinionated, it is not to the level that it is annoying.  Who among us isn’t opinionated.  I guess I should have know that anyone who was a good friend of Oprah’s is probably someone who could be a friend of mine.

I just want to state that I was wrong about Gayle.  I’m not indifferent about her; I really like her.

Stay Free Maxipad Commerical

Posted by rscme on June 20, 2007

This has been bothering me for a while.  Now, I’m a guy and I probably should not even get involved.  But I promised myself that my blog would be used to vent things when I have no other avenue to do so.

There is a Stay Free Maxi-pad commercial (I think its Maxi, could be Mini or something else, that’s not the part I really paid attention to) but the commercial starts out with a few women sitting on lounge chairs on what looks like a rooftop.  There is a huge water tower in clear view in the background.  Suddenly a close-up of the water tower appears and literally bursts open, with gallons upon gallons of water gushing out, indicating some sort of disaster.

Now, I’m not a woman, but that one visual effect offends me.  I can’t believe that it wouldn’t offend the women out there who use these types of products.  Is it supposed to funny?  If so, I think I need someone to explain the humor in comparing a woman’s monthly menstrual cycle to a water tower that bursts open.

Corn on the cob and tomato sandwiches – Summer Memories

Posted by rscme on June 19, 2007

I grew up in Manchester, Connecticut in a medium-sized dutch colonial on Center Street.  We did not have central air but we did have a few window air-conditioners in the upstairs bedrooms so we could sleep at night.  We did not have any in the main part of the house but for some reason we had one in our semi-finished basement rec room.

I grew up in a house with 10 people.  I am the youngest of 6 children all of whom are a year apart or so.  My mother’s mother and my father’s father lived with us too.  On those really hot summer days; you know, the ones where it is so hot and humid you can barely breath, some of us would go to our local elementary school’s public pool.  We would walk home smelling of chlorine and our hands all pruned up because we had spent so much time in the water.

We would come home and find out what was for dinner.  To our delight, on those hot summer days, we had corn on the cob and tomato sandwiches.  I’m talking about the kind of tomatoes you get at the mom-and-pop farm stands, so sweet, so delicious, so fresh and one huge slice would cover the whole piece of bread.  My favorite way to eat this was to toast the Wonder bread just lightly, add Hellman’s mayonnaise on each slice of toast, one huge slice of beefsteak tomato, and a little salt and pepper.  Now that was a sandwich.  Follow this with a side dish of corn on the cob slathered in butter, salt, and pepper and you’ve got a truly heavenly meal.

Since there were ten of us, and it was so hot, we would set up card tables in the rec room.  We would all make our plates and walk down the stairs to the basement balancing our dinner the whole way down.  We would all resound a big “ahhhh” as we stepped into the air-conditioned cellar and found our place at the table.  It was cool, comfortable, and everyone seemed to be in a much better mood once they got into the coolness, with their tomato sandwich and their corn on the cob.  It is a happy memory for me now that I am 42 and I live alone (with air-conditioning, of course).

It is hot outside, here in Springvale, Maine; hot and humid.  I just went to the supermarket and bought corn on the cob and tomatoes; I already have the bread and mayo.  I had a smile on my face as I waited in line at the checkout but I doubt the checkout girl, or anyone else, had any idea why.

If you have a childhood memory that brings a smile to your face in your adult life, I’d love for you to share it here.

Star Parker on “The View” – you’ve got to be kidding me

Posted by rscme on June 19, 2007

I didn’t think anyone could be more closed minded and louder about it, than Elisabeth Hasselbeck on The View.  That is until Star Parker showed up.

I really can not believe that  Barbara Walters did not ask this woman, nicely, to leave the stage during the first commercial break.  She did not listen to any other point of view that was being expressed.  She bulldozed her way through all of the political conversion, not just speaking over everyone else, but under, around, on top of, and right through everybody else.  She was annoying beyond belief and rude, not just to her fellow hosts, but to a guest on the show, Michael Moore.  If you do any research on her, she is a hypocrite.  Once again we have someone that, until she found “god”, was the poster child for liberalism.  She wrung the welfare system dry.  Now, she is a republican.  Once again we have a republican, who the republican party could care less about, based on her background, but she will stand there and defend them.
